Advanced manufacturer builds foundations for growth with HSBC UK

A Stoke-on-Trent-based advanced manufacturer is expanding its production capabilities to increase exports with support from HSBC UK.

Copper Alloys, a manufacturer of advanced metal alloys, has used a seven-figure funding package from HSBC UK to increase the size of its Burslem site to 40,000 sq ft.

HSBC UK supported expansion will enable Copper Alloys to increase capacity for the production of critical high-performance alloys 8-fold to 15,000 tonnes per annum.

This expansion is helping Copper Alloys capitalise on increased demand from marine, aerospace, power generation and petrochemical industries in Southeast Asia, Australia and the US.

As a result of HSBC UK supported expansion, Copper Alloys is expecting to create future employment opportunities as the business grows, supporting an estimated 50 per cent increase in turnover over the next 12 months.

Ben Turner, Managing Director and CEO of Copper Alloys, said: “The added capacity this investment creates will help us to reduce bottlenecks in global supply chains across the industries we serve. As manufacturing increases for strategic engineering projects like submarines, aircraft, infrastructure and satellites, this ability to manufacture parts efficiently will be increasingly important.”

“When we made this decision, we wanted to look beyond immediate growth requirements and instead look ahead to what we will need over the next 30 years to continue growing internationally. This investment helps us achieve that, and HSBC were quick to understand the scale of our requirements.”

Melissa Orpe, Area Director at HSBC UK, added: “This is an exciting chapter for Copper Alloys, as the business looks to advance its position in global markets. There is already strong demand across a range of different sectors for what the business offers, but the team behind Copper Alloys has shown a clear vision to invest strategically and build the right foundations for future long-term growth.”

Copper Alloys currently creates over 248 different alloys across 700 formats, with manufactured parts currently in operational use across extreme engineering applications from the sea floor to outer space.
